Badgers plan to get baking!

21.09.18

What we have been learning this week

With less than a week to go, Badger Class have been busy planning their part in the World’s Biggest Coffee Morning in aid of Macmillan. Invitations have been written and lots of baking has been planned. Please read below a request from the children, which is also included in this week's newsletter:

Dear Mums and Dads

Please can you help us to make lots of scrummy cakes for our coffee morning next Wednesday?  If you are able to bake some cakes, please can you bring them to school on Tuesday after pick-up or Wednesday morning and leave them in the school hall?  Thank you for helping us.  We are really excited to be able to raise some money to help people who are poorly and need lots of support.

Love from Badger Class

Meanwhile in maths this week the children have continued to investigate place value. They have been learning number bonds to 20 and finding out different combinations. Using a 100 square to support the children in counting in chunks of tens and ones, has helped them to identify patterns in numbers.

They have also developed their story writing skills by exploring different sentence starters, interesting verbs and using compound words to extend sentences.

There has been lots of fun this week also at Forest School, which started today!

What we shall be working on next week

The children will prepare cakes to sell at the coffee morning next week and look forward to welcoming guests. They will use the real life experience of raising money for a charity by counting how much they have raised and using real money to create different amounts of money

How you can help with home learning

Counting in tens from any given number up to 100 and using a 100 square to support and visualise their learning. Please can you reinforce that when counting forwards in tens using the 100 square, the children read the columns going down the page. A 100 square has been included in this week’s home learning. Children can clap or jump as they count in tens to help them learn and process the pattern. As a first step, counting in tens from zero to 100 might be useful. It is important for the children to understand that one clap or one jump represents 10.

General information

Please can the children bring their book bags to school every day? It would also be helpful for PE bags to be in school all week and they can be taken home at the end of the week to be washed. PE in Badger Class is on Mondays and Fridays.
