Welcome to Yr 1!

08.09.17

All the children have settled very well into their new class this week and should be very proud of themselves.

What we have been learning this week

The children have enjoyed writing postcards about their holidays and have shown us their fantastic knowledge in maths and phonics.

They have been given lots of opportunities to familiarise themselves with their new classroom.  For this half-term we have set up the classroom for continuous provision to support the children's transition from Reception.

The classroom has areas for independent writing, reading, maths, craft, role-play and motor control activities.  It has been lovely to see the children working collaboratively whilst exploring Fox Class.

What we shall be working on next week

Next week we will be starting on our new question, "What makes me human?".  In English we will be reading the story, "Super Red Riding Hood", and learning about familiar characters and events, as well as discussing differences from the traditional tale.

In maths we will be investigating numbers to 20 and using language such as more, less, bigger, smaller, count on and count back.

How you can help with home learning

This weekend you could practise counting up to 20 and beyond, and back down again, with your child.

Also, please now start reading regularly with your child and don’t forget to ask questions about the text, thinking about prediction and character.

General Information

Information about timetables, planning and classroom routines (homework, reading, etc) will be sent out next week.

Weather permitting, we will be doing outside PE on Monday afternoon next week.  Please ensure your child has their full outside kit, as well as a warm waterproof coat.  Many thanks everyone.
