Foxes get started!

What we have been learning this week

This week Fox Class has been learning about numbers and how to represent them in different ways.  They have also been thinking about more and less of amounts, in particular one more and one less of a number.

In English, Fox Class has compared the story of "Little Red Riding Hood" to the story of "Super Red Riding Hood" and the children have been writing descriptive sentences about some parts of the story.  They have also been accessing the writing area during their independent learning time, where they have been writing super-hero missions, labels for the role play area and secret messages to give to the super heroes!

As part of this term's topic "Super Me: What Makes Me Human?",  the children have been thinking about their bodies and their body parts. In groups, we drew around one child’s body and then began to label it. There were some very interesting conversations going on during this activity about what the body does, including how the heart pumps blood around the body.

What we shall be working on next week

Next week in English the children will be writing their own ending to the story of "Super Red Riding Hood". In Maths the children will begin to count in steps of 2 and will continue to think about numbers including one more and one less.

How you can help with home learning

To support your child at home you could give them an amount of peas, or any other vegetables or objects, and ask them to count how many they have, give them one more and ask them how many they have now. You could also do this but take one away, then ask how many they have. Challenge them to write that number down. When walking up the stairs you could also count in 2s with your child. To support your child with their English please continue to read with them regularly and don’t forget to ask them questions about the text, the characters, what will happen next, etc. You could also ask your child to tell you about the story they have read at school ("Super Red Riding Hood") and how it is similar to and different from "Little Red Riding Hood".
