Foxes and their exciting sentences!

19.10.18

What we have been learning this week

This week in English we have chosen our own character and setting, and we have thought about adjectives we could use to describe them, in our work connected to the story we started reading last week, "Tiddler". We have also been writing expanded noun phrases to make some more exciting sentences!

In maths we have continued to look at the + and = symbols. We have been using the whole part method to support our addition, and we have also been using a 10 frame to find all of the possible number sentences to make 10.

In RE we have continued to think about the world. We have discussed how we can look after our Earth by, for example, recycling, looking after animals, and keeping the forests and trees alive. The children designed their own posters on how we can work together to look after our world to share with everyone.Yr-1-Oct-19-a.jpg

What we shall be working on next half-term

Next term we will continue to practise sentence writing and focus on using capital letters, full stops and finger spaces. In maths we will continue working on addition and start to think about subtraction. We will practise making numbers up to 20 and make sure we really understand the numbers' place values.

How you can help with home learning

Homework this week is a phonics activity.  It is a snakes and ladders game with a twist, recapping words and sounds the children have learnt this term. A dice template will be sent home for you to make with your child in case you don’t have one at home. There will be a "comments" section for you to let us know how your child found the homework.
