Badger Class meet Sunny the Meerkat!

05.10.18

What we have been learning this week

This week Badger Class has been exploring the journey that Sunny the Meerkat has made, and reading the postcards that he sent to his family at home.

The end of the week culminated in the children being the character of Sunny and writing postcards of their experiences when visiting St John’s.

In maths the children have been orally counting in chunks of ten from any given number up to 100 and beyond.  They have also been adding multiples of ten to two-digit numbers and learning how to partition numbers, and to count on by using and drawing number lines.

What we shall be working on next week

Next week the children will be joining in with more adventures with Sunny the Meerkat and exploring the habitat in which meerkats and other animals live.

Reasoning and problem solving will feature next week as the children develop their understanding of place value.

How you can help with home learning

Please see the home learning that has been given to your children in their book-bags today. An English and maths activity will be sent out on alternate weeks. Spellings will be sent home weekly and reading is a daily activity.

Yr 2 Meeting and Tour of Waverley Abbey – Friday, 19 October at 9.15am

Waverley Abbey is inviting parents from different local infant schools to have a more personal, informal meeting with the school.  St John’s parents have been invited to meet and talk to the Headteacher on Friday, 19 October from 9.15am - 10.15am.  This is a good opportunity to see the school and meet staff in a more personal context compared with the recent Open Evening.  Waverley Abbey has asked that if you have any queries at all, or would like to book a place, please contact them directly.
