Rabbits and pirates and parachutes!

20.10.17

What we have been learning this week

Well, we finished last week by making our harvest soup with some crops from our garden. We looked, touched and smelt them before we cooked them. When it was ready, we were really proud of you all, as everyone tried it and some even had seconds!

This week has been just as busy with our phonics learning, with pirates and parachutes for p!  We also began an investigation into Autumn for i. We took magnifying glasses to investigate and we used our learning tools to notice and question.  We tried to use our senses to explore. When we finished investigating we used our imagination to make some art with our autumn collections. Can you see which one is an owl, a snake, a sunflower or a dragon's eye?

Throughout all this work we worked together with a partner to talk, negotiate and share. We are so proud of you all.

We also shared some time with our Yr 2 buddies who had written questions to find out more about us. We really enjoyed sharing facts about ourselves.

What we shall be working on after half-term

So, next term, we continue building up our phonic knowledge and how to use our sounds for reading and writing. We will do lots of work on one more and one less. We will also make sure we know our shape names.

We are thinking about  festivals, those we celebrate and those that others celebrate.

How you can help with home learning

Keep practising those letter sounds we have done so far by looking for things beginning with those letters, or playing "I spy". Keep counting, tidying your toys and singing number rhymes. Throwing and catching a ball would be really good to practise over half-term too.

We are also excited to announce all children should come home with their reading diary and a picture book so they can tell you a story. I know you are all fabulous story tellers so your parents are in for a treat!

General Information

We are so proud of how well the children are doing at settling in the mornings but please can we remind you that once you have said goodbye, you should be leaving the classroom quickly.  You can always have a chat outside!  We are very grateful as a quieter environment helps all the children settle.

Have great fun and lots of adventures over the holidays as we always look forward to hearing all about them when you get back.

A super first half-term everyone and we can’t wait for next half!
