Foxes carry on with their concentrating...!

13.10.17

What we have been learning this week

In maths this week Fox Class has been concentrating on numbers 10-30 and how they can represent the numbers in different ways.  They now know that a 2-digit number is made up of tens and ones and they have practised making that number using Dienes.

In English this week Fox Class has been thinking about rhyme. They began by finding two words that rhyme and created their own rhyming pair. They then progressed on to making their own rhyming sentences. This is something that Fox class found quite tricky. To practise this, you could always encourage your child to think of their own silly rhyming sentences at home.

The children have been continuing to think about the 5 senses in science this week when they explored their sense of taste. They were given a selection of foods and had to think of words to describe what they could taste. Some children liked what they could taste and some children did not!  Fox Class also thought about what a healthy plate of food would look like. We discussed the different food groups and how it is important to have a healthy balanced diet. The children then designed a meal for a super hero, to ensure they eat the foods that will keep them healthy and strong.

What we shall be working on next week

Next week in maths the children will continue to focus on representing numbers and grouping them in different ways. They will also begin to write numbers in words.

In English next week the children will be showing us what they have learnt this term by writing their own comic strip, and they will also be recapping on all the different sounds they have learnt this week.

How you can help with home learning

At home you could go through your child's spelling book and recap on some of the sounds they have been given, and ask your child to spell some of the words to check they haven’t forgotten how to spell them.  You could also practise writing some of the numbers from 0-20 in words and digits

General Information

Just a reminder that your child will be tested on their spellings every Wednesday, and they will then be given their new spellings on Thursday. Any incorrect spelling, on each week's test, will be written in the back of their yellow spelling book. Please make sure your child practises these spellings, as well as their new spellings, in the front of their yellow spelling book. When practising try to encourage your child to practise across the whole page, not just the first three columns.
