Badgers continue with their "Fighting Fit"!

06.10.17

What we have been learning this week

This week in maths Badgers have been adding two digit numbers using equipment including number squares and numberlines.

In English we have been learning about information texts. We have looked at which countries make up the United Kingdom in geography and have been learning note-taking skills.

As part of our topic "Fighting Fit", it's been all about our Harvest Festival this week.

We made bread to take to church and have been practising our singing in preparation for our lovely Service at church. We hope you all enjoyed it as much as we did?

Our healthy café is being well used this week. We seem to have some treasure in our tills so we need to count out money and change!

What we shall be working on next week

Next week in Maths we will be learning how to add numbers mentally and to understand that numbers can be added in any order. In English we will be continuing to create a fact file about the four countries that make up the United Kingdom. We will be looking back at our topic and thinking about what we have learned about being fit and healthy. There will also be a lot of reflection upon being thankful for all that we have. We also have a local author coming in to visit on Monday and sharing her new book with the children…what a great community we have in Churt.

How you can help with home learning

To support your child at home please practise their spellings with them and encourage them, when writing, to think about spelling words that they should already know. Our Reading Race Track is up and the children are keen to see their racing car moving along the race track so please continue to encourage your child to read at home and log it in their Reading Journals. We will try to update it daily although realistically, it’s more likely to be done weekly.

Homework

Homework is set on a Friday and is due in the following Wednesday. This allows time to look through their work and address any problems that they have with them. We are encouraging the children to ‘choose’ an appropriate activity to do although I have noticed that some children have not quite got the hang of choosing appropriately yet. We will be working on choosing appropriate challenges with them and hope that they will be able to challenge themselves appropriately. If you are a little unsure, do come and talk to me.
