Foxy fun at Forest School

16.11.18

What we have been learning this week

This week in English we began reading a new book called Boa's Bad Birthday. The children have been thinking about the hidden messages in the story and linking it to our new topic 'Why do we give gifts?' The children have orally rehearsed and retold part of the story, and have began to think about other gifts and characters they would like to add to the story.

In Maths we have continued to look at subtraction. We have learnt several methods to solve subtraction and we are beginning to see a link between addition and subtraction using the part whole model.

This week in Forest School the children explored with the autumnal sticks and leaves. They were able to make different shapes with the sticks including the first letter in their name. They then progressed onto making leaf kebabs.

What we shall be working on next week

Next week the children will use their subtraction and addition knowledge to find the difference between two numbers. They will also be able to compare addition and subtraction number sentences, this will allow the children to practice their addition and subtraction methods.

How you can help with home learning

The homework focus this week is Maths. Children will need to put their addition and subtraction knowledge into practise, using the methods they have learnt at school.
