Rabbits and Diwali

10.11.17

What we have been learning this week

Well, we have been hard at work finishing last week's topic work by making Diwali sweets called coconut "barfi". We hoped you enjoyed them as making them was so much fun!

We followed this with Indian music, dressing up, writing cards, dancing and making more pretend sweets for a super Diwali party - great learning Rabbit Class!

We  have been busy with our letter learning and using them in reading and writing.  We have been making rockets, each one adding one more cube.  We made marvellous marble paintings of firework displays and  you are all doing well at drawing fireworks in the night sky on the computer.

Thursday was very busy with a visit from Naomi Kefford, the author of  "When the Dragons Came".  This is a fantastic story and I shall be adding it to my collection of favourites, with its fantastic rhymes, super illustrations and moral messages. You can hear this story being read on CBeebies bed time stories. The class were inspired to draw and make fantastic dragons.

The day ended with our super story-telling session - you are all amazing story tellers and made me so proud. Thank you to a super audience who then came to our first Stay & Share session which was very busy and we loved sharing all our learning with you.

What we shall be working on next week

Letter learning for next week will be e, u and r, and we will be solving problems about one less. We will also be practising one more and one less and reading "Can’t you sleep little bear?"

How you can help with home learning

Please keep practising the letter sounds we have learnt so far and playing "I Spy" with them. Keep telling stories with your reading books, but it really helps to have your reading books and diaries in your bags everyday.

General information

You should have had a letter with the dates for Show & Tell sessions on Friday when each group has a turn. Please help your child choose something that they would love to talk about to their classmates. If relevant to the topic, that would be fantastic but it can be anything special to them that they are happy to talk about.
