Foxes learn all about position and direction!

24.11.17

What we have been learning this week

This week in Fox Class the children have been learning about position and direction. They made their own turning dials and practised instructing their friends around the classroom. They also programmed the bee-bots and directed them to specific locations. They now know what a quarter turn and a half turn is. Fox Class has also continued to look at 2D and 3D shapes.

In English this week Fox Class has been looking at non-fiction writing. They began their learning by investigating a country. They asked questions about the country and found out that it was Brazil. They have been writing facts about Brazil and the celebrations they have called the 'Carnival'. The children learnt how to write facts without putting their own opinion in their sentence and some children were able to write in bullet points!

On Thursday afternoon Fox Class continued to learn all about Brazil, and we were amazed by the wonderful costumes people wear at Carnival every February. We decided to design our very own carnival mask. We thought about what materials we are going to need such as feathers, sequins, card, tissue paper, etc, and we also thought about what equipment we will need to make the masks. Here are some examples of their beautiful designs.

What we shall be working on next week

Next week we will be completing a whole school writing activity, "The Big Write".  We will be investigators, news reporters and journalists!

In maths next week we will be recapping on numbers up to 30, and what the numbers look like in different ways.

How you can help with home learning

At home please do as much counting as you can, for example, going up the stairs, counting peas on a plate - any opportunity you see.  Please also practise spellings with your child and read regularly with them.

General information

New spelling words will begin to go out on a Friday now, as this will then give enough time to mark the spellings properly and hand them back for the children to see.  This will still give the children plenty of time to practise their spellings for their usual spelling test on Wednesday afternoon.
