Foxes and 2D and 3D shapes!

03.11.17

What we have been learning this week

This week we have been learning about 2D "flat" shapes and 3D "flat" shapes. We have been learning to recognise them, match them regardless of size and colour, sort them and describe their features.

The children worked together to make models using 3D shapes and then counted how many of each shape they had used. They also went on a shape hunt around the school to notice and investigate 2D and 3D shapes in every day objects.

In English we have finished reviewing all the phonic sounds learnt in Reception. The children have been focusing on applying these digraphs accurately in their independent spellings by using resources in the classroom. The children have also worked particularly hard at making their handwriting as neat and clear as they can. The children have a special handwriting book which they use weekly to practise letter formation. The children have also been talking and writing about what they already know about our new topic question 'What is a celebration?'

What we shall be working on next week

Next week we will learning about the Hindu story of Holi, creating some celebration art and developing strategies to solve addition in maths.

How you can help with home learning

Please ensure your child is practising their spellings little and often each week, and that they bring their yellow spelling book into school each day.  Also, whilst you are at home or out and about, please talk with your children about what shapes can theynotice?  What are they called?  Are they 2D or 3D?

General information

Apologies that homework was sent out late this week. Please continue to complete and return it by each Monday.

The children will bring home a list of Show and Tell dates next week so that you know when your child will have their opportunity. When it is their turn, please try to encourage something of interest, rather than just a toy.
