Badgers visit Watts Gallery

What we have been learning this week

What a busy week, and how proud we all are of Badger Class!  We had a fantastic trip to Watts Gallery on Tuesday and the children were an absolute credit to you all. They asked lots of fantastic questions and truly immersed themselves in the whole experience. I will be collecting their art work over the weekend now that it has dried and the children can share it with you next week. Thank you especially to all adults who came with us and helped on the day. Your help is very much appreciated! Here's one taster of our day and do take a look at the Gallery page for more lovely photos…

This week in maths Badger Class has been learning about multiplication. We have looked at how multiplication can be done in any order, as long as the groups are all equal. We have been drawing pictures to show what multiplication means and matched pictures with number sentences to make sure that we understand what multiplication looks like.

In English we have been looking at The Great Fire of London and, in particular, the Diary of Samuel Pepys. We have looked at different diaries and learnt how to write in the past tense and used these features in our own writing. We wrote a diary all about our day out and we have also written letters to the staff at Watts Gallery to thank them for their help in making our day so amazing.

As part of our topic we have been learning also about The Great Fire of London. This week we have been listening to the story of what happened, acting out how it might have felt to be there at the time and ordering the events. We have thought about how we know so much about the fire, thanks to eye witness accounts such as Samuel Pepys’ Diary.

What we shall be working on next week

Next week in maths we will be continuing to learn about multiplication and how to use facts that we already know to help us to find new facts.  In English we will be learning about writing newspaper reports, and this will be the first step towards our "Big Write".

How you can help with home learning

To support your child at home it would be really useful if you could practise counting in 2s, 5s and 10s. Any opportunity to hear your child read would also be of great benefit, particularly talking about different types of books and what type of books they prefer and why.

General information

This week we will be giving out lines for children to learn for the Christmas production and we will also explain what costumes the children will need to wear. You should have had a letter explaining how to order tickets - I do have some spares in the classroom if you haven’t received one yet.
