Badgers and their Class Assembly

17.11.17

What we have been learning this week`

Another busy week for Badger Class - this week all about our Class Assembly. In maths we have been adding and subtracting money using the bar model, coins and number lines.

In English we have been writing a diary entry using past tense and adverbials of time. This complements our weekly spellings to add the suffix -ed and -ing. We have looked at the Diary of Samuel Pepys to understand why diaries can be so useful and important.

In our topic work we have been thinking about The Great Fire of London and what London might have been like in 1666. We made up a dance using ideas from the story and, of course, we have been practising our Class Assembly. Thank you so much to all parents and family who came to support their child/ren. They absolutely love seeing you at school and enjoyed sharing their work with you.

It's great that the learning experience is shared and supported.  A big thank you for taking time to share the experience with them.

What we shall be working on next week

Next week in maths we will be using our knowledge of money to solve problems and also to think about how to use our growing knowledge of addition and subtraction to find the answers.

In English we will be using diary entries to help us learn first-hand about what happened in The Great Fire of London. We are going to do lots of drama to help us to imagine what it would have felt like to have been there and use this to improve our vocabulary choices when we write.

We are off on our school trip on Tuesday so a quick reminder that it will be a full day's trip and so the children will need to have a packed lunch please. The rest of the week we will be learning more about changes that have happened as a result of The Great Fire.

How you can help with home learning

To support your child at home it would be fantastic if you could continue to support them in getting used to handling and using money.  The idea of ‘change’ is something that they are finding quite tricky.

Please continue to practise spellings with your child and read with them whenever you have the opportunity.
