Rabbit Class carry on loving Forest School!

25.05.18

What we have been learning this week

We are quickly discovering that at Forest School there are always exciting finds to be made!  This week it was two different types of newt, and we also focused on learning about things that  live on oak trees. We started by shaking an oak tree and found spiders and caterpillars. Then we tried to find ways to recognise an oak tree and what an oak's seeds are called. We even went on a sensory hunt which saw us put our learning into practise.  We love using books in the woods to do some research, and our noticing learning tool comes in very handy to spot tiny caterpillars!

We are loving the warm weather and particularly all the things we can do with water!  We can estimate and measure in the water tray while we make potions and we can read scales on the jugs, as we really love big numbers. We can use our water sprays on Incy Wincy Spider while we read the key words.

What we shall be working on next term

Our whole school topic is “Joyful Journeys” beginning with a trip on the first Wednesday back after half-term, Wednesday, 6 June.  A very exciting day is planned!

We will be building up words we can read on sight, words we can spell, learning letter names and the correct formation of letters.  We are working really hard to ensure our numbers are correctly oriented, and that we can count forwards and backwards.

Let’s tell and write some super stories about journeys too!

How you can help with home learning

Please keep learning your sight words - well done to those of you who know them all!  Can you share out quantities of things in your family, for example, sweets, fruit, toys, etc?

General information

We can’t believe we will be in our final half-term after the break, and how much you have all grown!  It is fantastic to see so many children coming into school independently and putting all their things away themselves. Please can we encourage others to do the same as it really gives a sense of independence and responsibility in a safe environment. It will also soon be time to be getting ready for the transition to Yr 1 so, although being punctual has always been important, it will soon become even more so.

Have a super half-term everyone and don't forget that Monday, 4 June is an INSET Day, so we'll see you again on Tuesday, 5 June!
