Fox Class are doubling and halving!

18.05.18

What we have been learning this week

This week in maths we have problem solved, using multiplication and division, and began to apply these facts to help us to double and halve. We have done this practically with cubes and also pictorially, drawing butterflies to help us.

In literacy this week we have finished our Information Leaflets all about castles and written them up paying attention to our presentation. We have begun to learn the story of "The Three Little Pigs" in readiness to write our own versions next week.

In preparation for the Royal Wedding this weekend we looked at our Royal Family and who’s who. We also made flags to wave for our garden-party style lunch outside. The children absolutely loved eating together in the playground. Thank goodness the weather was fabulous!

Country dancing was also a hit this week and Foxes have a great sense of  rhythm!

What we shall be working on next week

Next week in maths we will be moving on to fractions, finding halves and quarters.  We will be doing this practically with shapes and then thinking about finding half of a number.

In literacy we will be imitating the story of "The Three Little Pigs" but our pigs will be building castles. I wonder what the wolf might find when he climbs up the tower?

For Topic this week we will be completing our clay shields ready to bring them home, and rounding up our Topic with the building of castles, as a group, and testing which material is the strongest.

How you can help with home learning

We have been talking about the time in class during general conversations and it would be fantastic if you could look together at analogue clocks. If your child could begin to recognise o’clock and half past each hour, that would really help us after half-term to begin our unit on time with a headstart.  Looking at how the second hand moves would help them to understand the passing of time.

General information

Thank you so much for your help this week so far with practising the children’s spellings. If we can continue with this I would be very grateful. It will make a huge difference to their writing as well as boosting their confidence when we test them.
