Badgers look out for that mouse!

04.05.18

What we have been learning this week

This week in English the children have been writing their own version of "Mouse Look Out!".  They changed the setting and the animals that feature in the story and produced some really entertaining stories that they have written out neatly.  These are going to be be displayed in the corridor so, if you are walking past, please feel free to have a read of their wonderful creations.

In maths we have continued to learn about time. We focussed on telling the time to 15 minutes, and then tried to move on to 5 minute intervals. This is something we will continue to return to, so as to ensure the children get enough practise. We have also revised fractions of amounts and properties of 2D and 3D shape.

What we shall be working on next week

Next week in English the children will be looking at features of instructions and writing a set of their own. In maths we will be looking at the inverse operations for all 4 operations.

How you can help with home learning

When reading with your child try and vary the types of questions you are asking them. See if they can find examples of, for example, descriptions in the text and that they can prove their answer by finding the exact words. You could use the fish, with spellings on it, to make a story. This is a good way to practise spellings.

In maths you could discuss time with your child, looking at the clock often, and discuss what the hands do. To enhance your child's mental fluency in maths you could go through their 2, 3, 5 and 10 times tables with them, as this will also support their division knowledge and their fractions of half and third knowledge.
