Badgers keep on measuring!

16.03.18

What we have been learning this week

This week in maths the children have been learning about measuring.  They began the week by measuring lots of different lengths and heights using centimetres as their unit of measure.  Then they began to look at metres as a unit of measure, and then finally they discussed when it is appropriate to use these types of measurement.

In English this week the children have been reflecting on their recent school trip by writing a recount of their day. To make sure the recounts are super exciting they have tried to included lots of different features in their writing, such as conjunctions, amazing adjectives and some fabulous time words!

On Wednesday morning the children had the Weyside Assemblies Team come in to visit and, together, they completed a workshop on the Easter Story. The children looked at symbols that could represent parts of the Story and at the end of the workshop they were able to take those symbols away with them.

What we shall be working on next week

Next week the children will be going over addition and subtraction methods again to support them with working out mathematical problems. They will also be refreshing their place value knowledge to support them with this.

In English the children will be reading "Mrs Armitage on Wheels" and becoming inventors, just the same as the Victorians were.

How you can help with home learning

Please continue to read with your child and ask them questions about the story they are reading to enhance their understanding and their comprehension skills. Please also support your child in practising their spellings. It's a good idea to give the children sentences to write with these words as, again, it supports their understanding of the word. To support your child's mental fluency, try playing some maths games, such as "number bond tennis" (number bonds to 10 or 20 or even 100).

General information

Spelling tests will now be carried out on a Wednesday.  Homework will stay as normal.
