The Gingerbread Man visits Rabbit Class!

10.03.17

Last week we ended Book Week with Yr 2 children reading a story to each of us. It was great fun for all, Badgers chose a book they thought a Rabbit child would like, they read the book, discussed it, and all were encouraged to ask questions of each other.

This week we have been busy with our new letter sounds, igh and oi. We  dressed as "knights" to rescue the princess and used "coins" in a Gingerbread shop.

We have enjoyed The Gingerbread Man story and have been trying to solve the problem of how the Gingerbread Man could get across the river instead of going with the fox. So, on a small scale, we have designed, labelled and built boats and small bridges.

On a large scale we worked together to build and test a bridge and stepping stones, with water added to test it properly. We worked together, stuck at it, listened to each others ideas and asked lots of questions.

We have been solving subtraction number stories to do with The Gingerbread Man story - ask us a take-away number sentence and see if we can work out the answer!

We have also been really thinking about emotions and what our faces look like when we are feeling different emotions. We thought about what we should do when we feel worried and it was great to hear the children really understanding that they should tell someone.  We recognised that when we feel cross, grumpy or angry using our mindful breathing might help.  I'm so proud of you, Rabbit Class - what great ideas you have!

Speaking of being proud, thank you so much for those people who have sent in Wow moments.  They are great to read and we have added them to your child's learning journey. There are more forms if you have need any - they are by the classroom door - please help yourself. If you have yet to return a Wow, please do take a moment to do so as the children really enjoy sharing them with us.

Home learning -  Can you play "guess my emotion"? Take turns to act out an emotion and guess what each other are feeling.

And as we have been learning oi in phonics, do remember to keep practising using and recognising coins.

Have a great weekend.
