Fox Class and odds and evens!

24.03.17

Fox Class worked on using number lines this week to solve subtraction number sentences and problems with missing numbers.  The children used lots of different words for addition and subtraction, such as more, count on, plus, less, count back, minus and take away.  Next week we will be recapping our learning about odds and evens and number patterns of 2s, 5s and 10s.

Our mornings, as always, were full of whole class and group activities and one group of children found letters in the sand pit and made lots of different words!

We have also been spending time learning and thinking about Easter and what it means to Christians. We listened to the Easter story and role played different events. Next week we will continue to think about events in the story and how characters might have felt, and finish by writing a newspaper report.

We really enjoyed our time spent with the Wey Assembly Team who came in this week to teach us about Easter and in particular Jesus being welcomed into Jerusalem on a donkey. The children were fantastic at talking about the story and then enjoyed making a welcome wreath decorated with pictures from the story.

We tore newspaper to make palm leaves which we waved in the air while cheering 'hosanna'.

In our DT lesson we read the Story of Saint George and the Dragon to conclude our castles topic. The children looked at the different types of shields they would have used in those days, and then designed their own personal shield that represented their family.  Next week we will be looking at the symbols of Easter.

Finally we would like to say well done to the children for all coming into school really well this week - what lovely smiles and good working together for your morning activities.

Happy Mothering Sunday!
