Badgers Are Learning Their Grammar

24.03.17

The children have been practising putting verbs into the past tense and also working out which words are verbs, nouns, adjectives and adverbs.  Miss Shaw is certain that she didn't know this until she was much older, but  is amazed at how well they are doing!

Our focus in maths has been to recap on 2D and 3D shape as well as developing better knowledge of symmetry.  This was easy to start with, but we needed to concentrate to make sure we stayed error-free!  In the afternoon, some of the children used symmetrical stencils to carry on their learning while others focused on developing their knowledge of 3D shapes by using the Geo-shape equipment.  They had to identify faces (surfaces), edges (where two faces join) and vertices (a corner where edges join).

We were very lucky this week to welcome the Wey Assembly team into school.  In Badger Class the children learnt more about the Easter story including a 'finger story' that they should be able to tell you at home.  The photo shows the team leader, Tara, sharing this with the children.

Also this week the children have continued to work extremely hard with their gymnastics. Over the last few weeks, they have learnt the nine basic gymnastic shapes: tuck, straight, star, straddle, pike, dish, arch, front support and back support.  They have used these to create some wonderful sequences, working individually and with a partner. Well done Badgers!

Next week promises to be very busy!  In our maths lessons we will be reviewing some of the learning that has been happening over the past half-term.  This will include more work on fractions and also trying to get children to make fairly accurate estimates of what an answer might be, providing a quick way of checking if their answer is likely to be correct.

Have a lovely weekend.
