Fun times for Foxes

What we have been learning this week

This week we started the week in English by learning about all sorts of different conjunctions we could use in our writing to help us to make our writing more detailed and interesting. On Wednesday we then looked at the Prefix ‘un’ and saw how by adding this to our words we can make the meaning of the word opposite. In Maths we have begun looking at Fractions and specifically 'half' this week. We have been busy making sure that shapes have been put into halves by making sure that they are in 2 equal pieces. We then looked at sharing amounts or quantities. In Topic we looked at the Characteristics of Mammals and looked at all sorts of Jungle mammals. In R.E we looked at important buildings, who might find them important and why. We discovered what a Mosque looked like and related this to knowing the purpose of a Church.

On Tuesday morning we had a fantastic activities morning at Waverley Abbey. We started the morning with some P.E and learning how to throw a Frisbee (not an easy task when it is rather windy!). We then split off into groups and had an arts and craft sessions creating dream catchers and then learning how to play a chord on the Ukulele. I personally found this great fun and am determined to learn how to play myself! Then to finish off the morning we created some stop, go animations where you can create an animation by taking lots of photographs as you move objects to make the appearance of them moving and creating the animation.

What we will be working on next week

Next week we will be showing off our phonic skills as we take our little quiz, please ensure children are in school as much as possible next week, are well rested and have had a good breakfast. In English we will begin to look at the Just So stories by Rudyard Kipling and beginning to go into more detail with different features of stories. In maths we are continuing with Fractions and looking at 'quarters'.

How parents can help with home learning

Please complete the sheet about halves, ensuring children understand that a half is one of two equal pieces. Spellings this week are compound words (2 words joined together to create another word.)

General Information

Please ensure children have a sun hat in school as the weather starts to become hotter (hopefully!) and that jumpers are named so they can be returned to their rightful owner at the end of the day.
