Foxes have a fantastic time!

What we have been learning this week

Wow, what an exciting and busy week we’ve had!  We had a fantastic day at the Brooklands Museum to introduce our new topic of Joyful Journeys.

We all got up close and personal with the aircraft and saw how the design and building of aircraft has changed over a relatively short period of time. The children loved the whole experience and were an absolute credit to you all. The staff at the Museum were bowled over with their enthusiasm and excitement.

Mixed in with that we have been learning about odd and even numbers in maths, sorting them and spotting patterns. In English we have been looking at the story of "The Hungry Caterpillar" and making up our own delights for him to eat.

In topic we have concentrated on the beginnings of flight and how it has changed.

What we shall be working on next week

Next week in maths we will be recapping place value and what numbers are, including ordering, partitioning and comparing numbers. In English we will be exploring characters using the book ‘Lost and found’ by Oliver Jeffers. In our topic work we will be exploring size and dimensions in art, making and comparing aeroplanes in science and continuing to learn about famous pilots for history.

How you can help with home learning

We have been learning about odd and even numbers so it would be fantastic if you could continue to work on this with your child. Is your house number odd or even? How many teddies or dolls do they have? Is this an odd or even number and how do they know?

I did complete the spelling test to keep things as normal as possible this week. The scores were quite low as, understandably, some of you were away over half-term. In light of this fact I have repeated the spellings from before half-term for the majority of the class to allow them the opportunity to give it a better shot next week.

General information

We will be doing lots of impromptu art moments this half-term. If you have an old shirt that your child could use it would be great if you could send it in with them, preferably named and in a bag.

Finally, could I also ask that younger children do not play with the equipment in our outside areas whilst waiting at pick-up time. These activities have been set up for the class and often have limited resources available. Many thanks.

Have a great weekend.
