Badger Class keep busy with their measuring!

15.06.18

What we have been learning this week

In English this week the children have been completing their recount. Then they used their purple polishing pens to look for any spelling mistakes and to check their punctuation. They also improved their work by adding extra information into their writing and to make it more exciting to read.

In maths we have been continuing to look at measure. We began the week measuring lighter objects in grams, and then progressed on to weighing in kilograms. The children have also briefly looked at capacity and will continue this next week. They even put their knowledge into practise and made some mocktails and baked some shortbread!

Also this week, one of parents, Mrs Harmer, was kind enough to come in and do some art with the children based on our topic, Transport. We focussed on looking at car parts in close detail, and the children spent a wonderful afternoon drawing in extra-large scale using different mediums such as charcoal and oil pastels. They produced some amazingly detailed pieces of art in preparation for our whole school Exhibition.

What we shall be working on next week

Next week the children will look at capacity and they will then use their knowledge of measure to solve problems. In English the children will be writing shorter pieces of writing based on journeys. Mrs Harmer will also be coming in again for another inspiring art lesson!

How you can help with home learning

Please try and do some baking or measuring at home with your child, even if it is making a mocktail using juice and fizzy water as this will help develop their understanding of why we measure. As always, please encourage your child to read regularly and practise their spellings.

General information

A letter was sent recently regarding children having the correct PE kit in preparation for the Waverley Abbey Sports Morning next week.  This consists of:

  • Navy shorts
  • St John's PE T-shirt (or plain white)
  • Trainers (please check your child's trainers fit them)

Many thanks everyone.
