Rabbits in their Cocoons!

09.06.17

Before we move onto this week I have to share with you the fun we ended the term with as we played the cocoon race game. We played in teams with one person for each team volunteering to be wrapped up in a cocoon. We had such fun, but the discussions afterwards about which learning tools we used made me so proud.

1. Working together to wrap up the person.

2. Noticing what needed doing next and watching the paper as it breaks.

3. Sticking at it when the paper broke and not giving up even when it was tricky.

4. Making links to the butterfly life cycle by singing the song.

5. Using our imaginations to pretend it was a cocoon and then breaking out and flying like a butterfly.

6. Questioning how could we do it? Would this work? Why is it breaking?

The team work, co-operation and conversations were fantastic and to top all that off it was so much fun!

What a fantastic Sports Day with all of you being such team players, having fun and supporting each other!

Of course the fun continues this term with our fun new water wall! I couldn't have imagined all the ideas you would all have about using it! I can't wait to see our learning develop further as we continue to think of ideas.

We have shopped in our fruit shop using pennies this week.

We have begun our Enchanted story of "James and the Giant Peach". To begin the week, we thought about others, like James, who may be feeling sad or lonely and what would it be like to have no toys, books or nice food. So we all wanted to give our families a hug and tell them we love them, remembering how grateful we are.  By the end of the week we heard about how James made a paper balloon and set it adrift wishing for good things to happen. So on Friday we set off a paper balloon just like James did - I wonder what might happen next?

For home learning this week, keep sorting and counting coins whenever you can, and any opportunities to cut things in half and talking about halving things would be fantastic. I am also sending home some spelling practice to start you getting ready for joining Yr 1.

On the subject of moving on to Yr 1, we would like to invite parents to a "Meet the Teacher" afternoon on Wednesday, 5 July at 2.30pm in the hall. This would give you an opportunity to meet both Mrs Kettle and Mrs Kibbler before the end of term. They will give you information about Yr 1 so you can be equipped to answer any questions your child might have during the summer holidays.

Next week we will be continuing our adventure with James, and we will be shopping with 2p coins in our fruit stall.

Please can I ask you to bring in an old pair of shoes, boots, etc, to donate to Rabbit Class for a sculpture project?  Children-sized footwear preferably please - they will not be returned so please do make sure they are an old pair and no longer needed!

Finally, we hope to see you at the Churt Village Fete on Saturday, and we are really looking forward to our trip next Thursday!  Have a lovely weekend everyone.
