Rabbits help Smartie the Penguin!

30.06.17

What we have been learning this week

Monday was internet safety day and we tried to help Smartie the penguin with some problems he had when using his computer. As a result the children learnt to tell an adult if pop-ups appear while they are using technology, and if they can't find the app they want to ask an adult for help.  We should be kind and treat people on the internet in the same way as we treat people in real life. This means that we should be kind to others we know, but shouldn't talk to strangers.  Well done Rabbits, you all tried to remember:

  • Before you click, click, click
  • You should think, think, think
  • And tell someone!

Tuesday saw us think about keeping ourselves safe so we looked at the NSPCC's "Pantosaurus" film.   The children designed their own pants - you are all so creative!  There were also some Pantosaourus dinosaurs made and they look just like those on the film.

Wednesday was fire safety day which meant we made our own fire engine and we enjoyed endless possibilities. We all enjoyed meeting the firefighters in the afternoon - they were amazing and inspired some of our future careers!

While we waited our turn we played games to practise what to do if our clothes were on fire: "Stop, drop, roll".  Also, if you are in a smokey room you need to: "Get down low and go, go, go".

Thursday was our road safety day, so we practised how to cross the road safely.

What we will be working on next week

Well, we need to get ready for Celebration Evening so there is lots to do!  On Tuesday afternoon we will be visiting our new classroom and teachers, and Mrs Kettle, Mrs Kibbler and Mrs Eckstein are already looking forward to this.

How parents can help with home learning

Can your child teach you what they are going to do when using the computer that might keep them safe?

Do you have a smoke alarm? Where is it? Has it been tested? What does it sound like?

Talk together about how to cross the road safely.

General Information

This week you received a sponsorship form from the NSPCC, and the children were asked to raise money for the charity by being sponsored to complete some physical activity. The children made me proud again as they recognised that in our story "James and the Giant  Peach", James was a boy who would have needed help from the NSPCC, so please support them in raising money to help other children like James. Our "Big Work Out" will take place in our PE lesson on Monday, 3 July - we are going to do a circuit of events spending 5 minutes on each activity for a total of 30 minutes.

Reminder

There is an opportunity to meet the Yr 1 teachers on Wednesday, 5 July and hear a bit more about life at St John's once Rabbits become Foxes!  We hope that this will provide you with information about Yr 1 so you can support your child if they have any questions over the summer holiday. We look forward to seeing you at 2.30pm.
