Badgers learn about position and direction!

30.06.17

We we have been learning this week

This week in maths, Badger Class have been learning about position and direction. They started off the week by continuing the pattern on the Mad Hatter’s hat, or fixing parts that had fallen off. They then moved on to thinking about position and direction. They were trying to give Alice directions so she could get out of the maze. They used words such as left, right, anti-clock wise, clockwise. They then practised using this language by directing their partner around a set of cones to spell words such as Alice, rabbit and queen. The children loved this and really began to understand the directional language. Badger Class also had the opportunity to go to the corner shop to buy some ingredients for a surprise at the Celebration Evening.

In English this week Badger Class have handwritten their very own Alice in Wonderland play script. They split the story into five parts and each group wrote their own interpretation of what happened. They then moved on to practising and rehearsing their scene. They really enjoyed doing this!

Also this week, Badger Class have been thinking about staying safe. We started the week off by thinking about how we can stay safe online and when using electronic devices. The children discussed sensibly what they would do in certain situations. They have also had a visit from the NSPCC and the Farnham Fire Brigade. Badger Class have also thought about how they should stay safe when crossing the road - they now confidently know the green cross code and can spot hazards by the road.

What we shall be working on next week

Next week in English the children will be continuing to practise their play and begin to memorise their lines. In maths the children will be faced with planning and preparation problems relating to our Celebration Evening. They will need to use all of the skills they have learnt this year to tackle the problems, including multiplication, division, addition, subtraction, measure and money.

How parents can help with home learning

To support you child next week they could rehearse their lines with you and you could recap some multiplication, division, and addition and subtraction strategies.
