What we have been learning this week
This week Badger Class have been collecting data, representing data and interpreting data. First of all the children went around the class asking everyone which sculpture was their favourite from our school trip. They collected the data by using a tally chart. They then transferred these results into a bar chart and then they had to think of and answer questions about what they found out. The children were able to interpret the data and recognise which was the most popular sculpture and which was the least popular sculpture.
On Monday, of course, we all went on a school trip to The Sculpture Park and Thursley Nature Reserve. In English this week Badger Class have been reflecting on their school trip and have been writing a recount about what they did, what they saw, their favourite sculpture. They have also continued the poems they started last week.
Badger Class have been inspired by some of the sculptures they saw when they went to The Sculpture Park, so much so they have designed and created their own sculptures, using recycled materials. They worked extremely hard and should be very proud of their creations.
What we will be learning next week
Next week in maths the children will be thinking about ordering and sequencing shapes and numbers. They will also be thinking about position and direction. In English the children will begin to write their own script for a scene in Alice in Wonderland, that they will perform at Celebration Evening.
Home learning
At home you could draw a sequence of shapes and ask the children to continue the pattern. You could also ask your child to direct you from one place to another in your house or when you are out and about. Try and get them to use language such as left, right, forwards, backwards, quarter turn, half turn, three quarter turn.
Notes for parents:
Next week the children will be practising their maypole dance on Tuesday afternoon so please ensure your child’s PE kit is in school on Tuesday.
Show & Tell will be Emerald group this week and will take place on Monday afternoon.
Homework will be sent out on a sheet this week as we will be keeping books in school for use in English next week.
Finally, a big thank you to all of the parents who contributed their recycled materials, this really supported the children when they made their sculptures.
