Badgers get digital!

09.06.17

In Maths this week Badger Class has been thinking about place value.  They first investigated 2 digit and 3 digit numbers and represented them through drawings and use of Dienes. They then moved on to estimating numbers on a blank number line.

In English this week Badgers began to read "Alice in Wonderland", but stopped reading at the point when Alice drank the potion and she shrank down to a tiny person. Badgers then closed their eyes and imagined this was happening to them and thought about what they could possibly do if they were very tiny. Once they'd opened their eyes again, they noticed something strange - there were tiny people all around the classroom! Badger Class took themselves on an adventure around the school and imagined they were that small.

Badger Class also had a really fabulous time at Sports Day this week doing the obstacle course, the running race and, of course, the sack race at the end of the afternoon!  All the children tried their best and celebrated everyone’s achievements. It was a really lovely afternoon and a delight to see all of the children cheering on the other classes.

Next week the children will be continuing to think about place value and then use their place value knowledge to work out questions relating to all four operations:  + - x ÷.

In English the children will be planning and writing a diary entry about their adventure as a tiny person. Badger Class will also be introduced to their new topic "Enchanted Wonderland".

Show and Tell will be gold and ruby group on Monday, 12 June.

Finally, can you please continue to bring in any used yoghurt pots, plastic bottles, cereal boxes, etc, so we can use them for junk modelling later in the term. If your child hasn’t already, can they bring in an empty 1 litre or 2 litre clear plastic bottle next week as we will be using them for our science experiment.
