Badgers learn all about road safety

06.07.18

What we have been learning this week

This week in English the children have planned their adventure story and started writing it up.  They have also been reflecting on the year and writing about their favourite memories from their time at St John's.

In maths we have looked at place value of 3-digit numbers. The children then transferred this knowledge to recap on addition of money. They now understand that £1 also equals 100p and can use this fact to add money in the same way as they would add any 3-digit number.

As part of our "Keeping Safe" Week, Badger Class learnt about road safety on Thursday and, in particular, they learnt all about the Green Cross Code. They now understand that it is important to stop, look, and listen before crossing the road, and they were able to identify hazards there might be when crossing the road. They also designed their own fluorescent bag or coat.

What we shall be working on next week

Next week the children will be completing their story and continuing to look at money.

Please don't forget that, as mentioned in Mrs Morris' newsletter, Sports Day is on Tuesday and the children may come to school dressed in their PE kit.

How you can help with home learning

If possible, please let your child play with a selection of coins to support them in identifying each coin quickly. Help them to understand that a collection of coins such as 5x 2p could also be the same as a 10p coin.

General information

On Wednesday, 18 July, the children will be taking part in a Talent Show and performing in front of Fox Class and Rabbit Class. Badgers have been briefed about this and most have decided what they are going to do. This is a fun occasion and therefore we do not wish to put any pressure on the children. Children can perform individually or in groups. The idea is that children can practise during playtimes and organise themselves outside of the class room, so it does not interfere with their learning. Please discuss with your child what they have decided to do and please support them in any resources or costumes they may need to perform their talent.
