Foxes start learning all about art!

12.01.18

What we have been learning this week

This week in Foxes we have started our new topic - What is Art? The children have really enjoyed learning about van Gogh, Monet and Giuseppe Arcimboldo. After learning about each artist the children have written fact sentences about them. They worked really hard to include accurate punctuation, write clearly and only include facts in their writing.

The children then went on to produce some art of their own. They chose their own techniques to make a sunflower to replicate van Gogh.

The children also cut and assembled images of fruits and vegetables to create portraits in the style of Archimboldo.

All the children demonstrated good care and focus during the cutting activities and their pieces are very effective. Well done Foxes!

In maths this half-term we will be focusing on addition, subtraction, number facts and developing fluency in number. This week we have used '10 frames' and 'number lines' to support counting on to solve addition problems. The children are encouraged to use various tools and strategies so that they can apply their understanding for different problems and also so that they can begin to choose strategies that suit them. We have also been recapping number bonds to 10, before moving onto applying this knowledge to find number bonds to 20. This will continue throughout the half term.

What we shall be working on next week
Next week the children will be writing stories based on the book 'Katie and the Artists', and solving subtraction problems in maths.

How you can help with home learning
Please continue to support your child to practise their spellings. Also, can you please listen to your child read little and often at home, either with their school reading book or their library book. We will continue to assess your child's reading level next week.

General information
Homework will start again next week.  We will continue to do outside PE so please ensure your child has trousers, t-shirt, jumper, trainers and socks in their PE bag.  Many thanks.
