Badgers and "The Gingerbread Man" and an apple!

19.01.18

What we have been learning this week

In English this week the children have been writing an alternative traditional tale involving an apple, of all things, which came to life!  We followed the pattern of “The Gingerbread Man” to create an adventure for this runaway apple.  The children have enjoyed making up some of their own repeated phrases and describing how the apple escaped.  We have also listened to a traditional tale from Jamaica involving a sneaky spider called Anansi.

This week in maths Badger Class have been learning about division and how it is related to multiplication. The children have been sharing and grouping, beginning to understand the difference and trying to explain their ideas using words.

During the afternoons we have learned a little more about Jamaica, where it is and what it is like geographically. We have compared it to the United Kingdom and explained what each country is like. Next week we will be looking at how it is the same and how it is different from Churt.

What we shall be working on next week

Next week in maths we will be finishing learning about division and multiplication before moving on to statistics, eg, graphs and data handling.  In English we will be creating a new adventure for Anansi using the structure of a traditional tale.  There are lots of adventures of Anansi online if you would like to see what silly tricks he gets up to…

How you can help with home learning

To support your child at home it would be great if you could play some games involving vocabulary, eg, scrabble or boggle.  We are trying to increase the amount of different words that the children are being exposed to, with a view to sparking their interest in writing and finding out about the meaning of new words.

General Information

Please accept my apologies for the short notice regarding the change to Forest School.  I felt that the children would benefit from getting out and having some time learning in our amazing environment.  As it is such a short term and it is their final year, it would be a shame not to utilise this opportunity, and I will be able to spend time with half of the class, allowing me to really help to iron out any misconceptions.  Please don’t feel that you need to rush out to buy waterproof clothing. As long as the children are warm and you don’t mind them being dirty, any suitable clothing for them to change into would be great.  Thank you.
