Badgers are all at sea!

24.02.17

The children came back to school with enthusiasm and have done very well in all their learning.

We have started to learn more about the sea as an introduction to our topic area of "Journeys" and also linking it to the poem of "The Owl and the Pussycat".  I was amazed that by Thursday, lots of the children could say some of the poem, despite this not having been expected of them!  We used the poem as a stimulus for their own story writing and also worked on knowing what an adverb is.  Their spellings are also linked to this so do ask them to put the word into a sentence!

We had fun on Wednesday making our lovely sea scenes.

This was very independent work and the whole class can can be relied upon to follow the instructions......

help each ... and clear up well at the end of the day!

In maths we began learning about fractions.  We identified 1/4, 1/2 and 3/4 of shapes and numbers and also talked about how we knew a shaded area of a shape was a fraction of the whole.  We will continue with this at the beginning of next week then we will go on to some missing number work where they have to find the number to make the calculation balance - for example:  13 +5 = 20 - ____.  To work these out, the children would be expected to find the answer to the complete side of the calculation, then go onto the missing number side.  Any help from home is, as always, much appreciated.

Many thanks to those who have already contributed towards a donation to the RNLI, who wil be visiting us next Tuesday.  I think the talk will be very worthwhile and the children love to have visitors in school.

As you know, the children will be going to Woolmer Hill very promptly on Monday morning for their Confederation Multi-sports Morning, so a speedy arrival at school would be appreciated - thank you.

Have a lovely weekend.
