Rabbits and the animals from Hydestile!

01.12.17

What we have been learning this week

Well, there’s so much to share with you from this week!  We really enjoyed meeting Graham and all the animals from Hydestile Wildlife Hospital last Friday.   We met a blind kestrel, two polecats, two guinea-pigs, a chinchilla, hedgehog and a barn owl. Graham asked us to look out for hedgehogs and, if they weighed less than 500g then they won’t survive the winter, so you could ring Hydestile Animal Hospital and tell them about your find!

Then this week started with a Monday-morning mystery as to who had been having a party in the gazebo? What had happened at the party? What clues could we find?  What amazing imaginations you have!  Maybe it was Santa, a mermaid, Paddington or the Mr Men!  You all made us so proud by being fantastic journalists, interviewing each other before writing your own newspaper front page.

What we shall be working on next week

We will start learning about the Christmas story, with our big question being “Who travelled to Bethlehem?”.  We are looking forward to seeing the whole school rehearsal at the end of the week.

We will also start working on lots of craft projects for Christmas.

We will continue our letter learning with w, x, y, and we will be using shapes in many of our Christmas designs.

How you can help with home learning

Thank you for supporting the learning of reading, by asking your child to read with you little and often.  Reading books can be changed properly if they are in the book bag everyday and it really helps if you comment or just sign to say it has been read at home.

If wrapping presents at home, maybe you could get your child to spot the repeating patterns on the wrapping paper?

General information

Thank you all for helping by providing white clothes for your child to wear for the school production.

And, finally, this week we said goodbye to Constance and wish her good luck in her new home and school.  We also wish to extend a warm welcome to Louisa who has settled in and is very busy making lots of new friends!
