Foxes learn more about the Christmas story

08.12.17

What we have been learning this week

In English this week the children have been looking at the Christmas Story. They orally retold the story to ensure they knew it really well. Then they put the story into the right order and went on to complete a story board with detailed writing about each part of the story.

For maths this week Fox Class has been looking at money and how coins can represent amounts. So far the children have looked at 1p, 2p, 5p and 20p. This is something that is new to them and we will carry on with this over the next few weeks.

The children have also looked at how other countries around the world celebrate Christmas. They made flag baubles and wrote some interesting facts about some of the traditions from these different countries.

What we shall be working on next week

Next week in Fox Class we will be going on our school trip to the Cathedral and we will reflect on what we see there as a lovely end to our topic of "What is a Celebration?".  We will also be reading Harvey Slumfenburger's "Christmas Present" and writing our own ending to the story.

In maths we will continue to look at different coins and their values.

How you can help with home learning

To support your child with their learning this week you could help them recognise some of the different coins when paying for something at the local shop or supermarket.  Please also continue to read with your child and practise their spellings.

General information

There will be no spelling test next week due to the Christmas performance. This means children will have two weeks to practise their spellings.

If your child has still not brought in their costume in, please make sure it is in by Monday morning.  Thank you.
