Year 1 - Learning about double facts in numeracy

Children in year 1 have been learning about doubles. Working in pairs, the children had to double each numicon piece from 1 to 10. They then had to find and match the answer.
After they had completed all the doubles to double 10, they asked each other doubles questions and used the numicon to help them answer as quickly as possible. The children were encouraged to use different language when asking the questions, such as, 'what is double 5?', 'what is 5 add 5?', 'what is 5 plus 5?'
The following day the children practised writing double number sentences and used drawings to help them solve any doubles problems they did not know.
