Rabbits get gloopy for Science Week!

20.04.18

What we have been learning this week

Welcome back Rabbits, and our Science Week started as we experimented with what happens to our bodies when we exercise in PE. We got hot, our hearts were beating fast, we were breathing quickly and some of us had very pink cheeks!

Then we explored gloop and what happens to it when you apply energy.  It was lots of fun and I promised to tell families that you make the gloop by mixing cornflour and water as I’m sure they would love to show you at home..!

We also used our listening skills this week to see if we could guess which instrument was being played without looking.

We made predictions about which material would protect Humpty Dumpty from cracking when he fell off the wall. It was fun predicting, and then testing to see if we were right.

Our first Forest School session this morning was lots of fun and we can’t wait until next week.

What we shall be working on next week

Next week we will be thinking about life cycles starting with tadpoles.  If anyone has access to some frogspawn we would love some in class with plenty of water from the pond they come from - thank you so much.

We will also be reading, discussing and acting out the story of Noah’s Ark.

We will be reviewing all sounds we have learned so far and letter names, and we will keep practising our addition and subtraction.

How you can help with home learning.

Please try to continue to read regularly with your child and then record it in the reading diary to say you have done it. If your child can read all the flash cards, can they write them too?  Can they count out 20 toys?

General information

Please make sure your child has a named PE kit in school. This should consist of shorts, T-shirt , joggers for cold weather and outdoor PE shoes. Please apply sunscreen before coming to school. We do have hats for everyone but children may bring their own if preferred.

Finally, we welcomed Freya to St John’s just before Easter and she is a fabulous addition to the class - already making lots of friends with her amazing smile!  Welcome Freya!
