Busy Badgers!

15.09.17

What we have been learning this week

Wow, what a week! We’ve been really busy getting back into the swing of learning and some super work has been produced.

In English this week, we have looked at the original story of “Handa’s Surprise”, and are now in the process of writing our very own version. Who knew Handa had visited Frensham Pond?  Lots of capital letters, full stops and adjectives describe her journey as she delivered her surprise.

In maths we have been using place value charts, number-lines and arrow cards to explore the value of numbers. It would be amazing if you could ask your child to tell you what they know about the number 50…

Fighting fit has surprised us how "puffed out" we felt after lots of exercise in PE!  We also thought about how we change as we grow.

What we shall be working on next week

Next week we will be looking at how other animals grow and how they change too.  In literacy we will be thinking about our upcoming Harvest Festival.   We will be looking at poetry and having a go at writing our own. Lots of counting and using bigger numbers is the name of the game in maths.

How you can help with home learning

To help your child at home, can they think of a number and tell you how many 10 more would be, or how many 10 less would be?  You can do this in practical ways too, eg, money, cooking, etc.

Don’t forget our reading challenge – each read counts towards a move along the race track!  Please feel free to use the book mark issued at yesterday’s “Meet the Teacher” session and chat with your child about what they are reading.

General Information

As homework is given out on Friday, I will be setting a times tables activity for the children this week. I will also try to encourage them to collect a ‘challenge’ to do as well. This is completely voluntary but it would be lovely to see what they can do.
