Badgers and all sorts of other animals!

26.05.17

In English this week Badgers have finished editing their version of "The Owl Who Was Afraid of the Dark". They created some fantastic versions of the story. Badger Class also had the opportunity to share their stories with Rabbit Class, who seemed to really enjoy listening to some of the Badgers’ stories. This was a lovely experience for the children and they should be really proud of their final stories. Children have also read "Rascally Cake" and created their own version of the story.

In maths we have been learning about money.  The children have been practising adding money and finding the change from a total. This is something that we will revisit again in the second part of the summer term.

Badger class had a few exciting visitors this week. They had a visit from "Wild Science" when all of the children had a fantastic afternoon where they could show off their knowledge of animal classification. There were many different types of animals that visited Badger Class including a cockroach, a tarantula, a lizard, a corn snake, a frog and a guinea pig. They were very lucky because they got a chance to hold or touch all of the animals. Whilst the children were getting to know the animals, Amber from "Wild Science" spoke about where the animals came from, what they like to eat and lots more interesting facts! All of the children had a wonderful afternoon! It’s not everyday you get the chance to hold a tarantula and a snake!

It has been a wonderful half-term and the children have worked extremely hard. Next term Badger Class will continue to write in different styles for real and imaginative purposes.  They will continue to develop the use of different punctuation and use effective vocabulary to entertain the reader.  In maths, the children will be consolidating what they have learnt and apply their knowledge to various problems and maths challenges. We are also, of course, looking forward to starting our whole school topic, "Enchanted Wonderland".

Messages:

  • Show and Tell for w/c 6 June will be Sapphire group.
  • Over the holidays if you could please collect any junk modelling, eg, tissue boxes, cereal boxes, yoghurt pots, bottles, tubs, etc, and bring it in after half-term, as we will need it for one of our art and DT projects.
  • For a science experiment we will also need children to bring in a 1 litre or 2 litre plastic bottle, that is seethrough and can be cut easily with scissors.
  • If you have any spare shoe boxes or tubs, could you also bring these into school.

Many thanks everyone and have a wonderful half-term!
