Foxes enjoy their trip to Milestones

08.02.19

What we have been learning this week

This week we have returned to learning about Harry and a Bucketful of dinosaurs and I was so pleased with how well they remembered the story after a week’s break. With this understanding of the story we then planned and wrote our own stories with a similar structure. Not only was I amazed with the quantity and the quality of the children’s writing Mrs Stevens was also as pleased with it! In Maths we have used our knowledge of bar models and parts and wholes of numbers to help us work out missing number problems, very complex stuff! Our class assembly, all be it a bit short in the end, was lovely and I was very impressed how the children were able to sum up our learning this half term so well! On Wednesday our trip to Milestones was thoroughly enjoyed by all and the children were very well behaved, listened well and really thought about how toys have changed over time. I enjoyed teaching the children how to play Dominoes and attempting to show them how to hopscotch - no mean feat when you’re an adult and haven’t done it for years!

What we shall be working on next week

Next week we will be carrying out lots of different assessments with the children so we can gain a clear understanding of what learning the children are secure in and what areas we still need to work on. We will then be taking a well earned rest from Maths and English towards the end of the week and start to make the Hand Puppets that the children designed a couple of weeks ago.

How you can help with home learning

I am thrilled to see that the bookmarks sent home last week have been put to good use and lots more comments in the reading diaries are relating to these questions as well as the all important reading itself. This week for homework please can you revise any spellings that your child has found tricky this half term as we will be doing a selection of spellings for our test next week to see if the children have been able to remember them. Also please have a look at the note sent home with regards to producing some work about our school trip.
