Foxes visit the Cathedral!

15.12.17

What we have been learning this week

This week the children enjoyed a visit to Guildford Cathedral.

We made comparisons to St John's Church in Churt, noticing lots of similarities and differences. The children saw lots of crosses, a font, an altar, a lectern, stained glass windows, prayer cushions and an organ. We found out that while St John's has two bells, the Cathedral has 12!  We started our morning with a tour of the Cathedral before taking time to make observational drawings and spending some quiet time for prayer or reflection. We also got to see the display of over 200 angels made by local schools, including our own. Our beautiful gold angel looked fantastic and it was very special for the children to see it amongst the lovely display. Thanks again to Mrs Harmer for her help, support and guidance with this.

The children have all done brilliantly during our Christmas production performances this week - well done Foxes! They have also enjoyed a session led by the Wey Assemblies Team in which they explored the Christmas story.

Despite such a busy week the children have still found time to enjoy listening to and writing about the story "Harvey Slumfenburger's Christmas Present" by John Burningham. This story led to a lovely class discussion about the giving and receiving of presents at Christmas time.

What we shall be working on next week

We will be baking on Monday morning and enjoying Christmas lunch and the class parties on Wednesday afternoon.   Please don't forget to come straight to church on Thursday when the Christingle Service will be taking place first thing.

Also next week, the children will receive a new spelling list for practise over the holidays, and library and homework will resume in the new term.

General information

We will not be needing PE kits again this term, so these can now be taken home.
