Badgers get sporty!

What we have been learning this week

We’ve had lots of fun in Badger Class this week!  We have been working hard practising for our Christmas Play this week, as well as writing about our very own Pudding Lane fire from last week. We also took part in a Multi-sports morning at Woolmer Hill along with three other Haslemere Confederation schools. It was lovely to see the children taking part in the activities and getting to know children from other local schools.

This week in maths Badger Class has been looking at using mental calculations counting and estimating. Even at the Christmas Fair we were thinking about the change that we should receive when buying our Brilliant Bags!

In English we have been writing another Newspaper Report, this time reporting as someone who had seen The Great Fire of London!  We are still trying to perfect remembering to use full stops and capital letters accurately. Look out for our finished reports as we hope to publish them next week…

During the afternoons we have been practising our Christmas play and really look forward to sharing it with you next week. We have also seen the panto this week, with a festive version of Goldilocks.

What we shall be working on next week

Next week is really busy. Our Christmas play will be performed for you on Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons as well as Thursday evening. In Literacy we will be focusing on grammar, particularly extending sentences using different conjunctions. In maths we will be having a Christmas theme, cracking missing number codes and general revision of work covered so far this term. In the afternoons we will be making Christmas crafts and also "Secret Santa" will take place on Tuesday.

How you can help with home learning

Thank you for bringing costumes in for next week. I will be sending home song words for children to practice over the weekend as we will also be performing Christmas carols at the Old People’s Community Centre on Monday afternoon.  I appreciate that these coming weeks are very busy for parents and children with Christmas celebrations taking place. It would be great if you could help the children to learn some of these song words, particularly the traditional carols.

General information - a quick reminder

Please could you make sure that children have their black plimsolls in school for next week. They will need them to wear on stage for the play. A few children have mentioned that their trainers or plimsolls are a little bit small. I will send their PE kits home next week and would be grateful if you could check that their kit still fits and is labelled.

Reading is still a priority and I would really appreciate it if you could remind children to read daily and put their Reading Record Book into the tray each morning.

Show and Tell

As a result of it being such a very busy time in school at the moment, we have stopped Show and Tell until after Christmas. We will restart it in the New Year and I will send out a new timetable shortly. We will reduce it to once per half term, taking place on a Friday afternoon. This will hopefully prevent the difficulties at home with finding things to bring in.
